60 days ago I wrote down a goal. In fact, I wrote a blog post on it here. But in short, the weekend prior to that post I found myself at the pool in a swimsuit, feeling uncomfortable and self-conscious. I was still recovering from a running injury and had just let my fitness go a little and it wasn’t a feeling great about my body. (some people will probably think that I looked just fine, and don’t get me wrong, I looked okay! I just felt uncomfortable and unhappy) So I set down some goals to aim for by the next time I would find myself in a swimsuit. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be a part of a special women-only Barry’s Bootcamp class taught by Erica Stenz where lululemon was introducing their “latest and greatest” Enlite bra before the product hit the stores. The week of the class all attendees were required to go to the store for a bra fitting (okay, okay twist my arm lulu!) Upon arrival I was greeted with super helpful associates who helped me find a perfectly fitting bra. And when I say perfectly fitting, I mean it. This bra comes in so many sizes that even my 32D was accommodated perfectly, which is rare. Lulu went above and beyond during the bra fitting and when they told me that not only do I get the bra, but I also got to pick up and entire outfit, my jaw hit the floor.
My first thought after putting it on was that there is no way this bra will be able to keep my girls in place during any high impact workout. It was so soft, comfortable, and I didn’t feel squeezed into it like sausage (why is this how I think bras shouldn’t feel???) But hey! they were giving everyone in the class a free bra, of course I was going to give it a test run.
There is nothing like putting a bra through the true test like wearing it through a Barry’s class where you are dripping sweat, lifting, running, jumping, sprinting, and moving just about every way possible. And let me tell you, this bra really did feel as great during the workout as it did when I was trying it on. I was shocked at how comfortable, yet supportive it felt. I waited a few weeks to write this review because I wanted to see if it really lived up to its “be free to move” motto in workouts like yoga and long distance running outdoors. With most of my bras, I usually had to change styles or types if I was going straight from a yoga class to a run or vice versa because none of my bras are built for both and I always thought packing and using up two bras for one sweat sesh was annoying. Trust, your girl here with the 32D cannot go marathon training in her built-in-bra yoga-top or cute-strappy yoga bra, it’s not cute or comfortable or sustainable (I’m trying to keep the girls perky as long as possible!)
This was a serious winner in every test I put it through. It was consistently comfortable and didn’t chafe during a longer run and I felt free and un-constricted during all the yoga classes I took in it and the crisscross straps in the back are even cute, for a high support bra. Even though it’s $100 price tag almost doubles the price of my old favorite running bra (moving comfort, Juno), I would still recommend this to a friend who is willing to invest in something comfortable and versatile.

Hey guys! I’m doing a thing. You know… a fitness-y healthy thing, because that’s kinda my thing. It’s more than just a diet, it’s a whole fitness goal. I have a big beach vacation coming up for one of my bestie’s bachelorette weekend in the beautiful Caribbean Island of Anguilla! We’ll be staying at the Four Seasons there (No, I am not a baller nor is this sponsored, but we got an amazing deal through friends who are owners at the private residences there) Anyways, a few weeks ago at another friend’s wedding I found myself in Palm Springs at the pool feeling, well, a little uncomfortable in a swimsuit… I even saw some photos to prove it (I think we all know the feeling). Since I stopped running for the most part a few months ago due to a hip injury, I’ve gained a little extra fluff around the edges, not a lot, but enough to make me a tad uncomfortable with my body. I want to feel fit, confident, and less fluffy the next time I find myself by a pool, and I know something has to change so as of this week, 60 days out from the trip, I’ve decided to focus on strength training, my overall fitness, and keeping a close watch on what I am eating and how I am fueling my body (more real, less crap). Yes, I took before photos, weighed in, and took measurements, and no I am not going to post one now because, hey, it’s a little awkward :). But the goal is to see enough of a change where I feel comfortable sharing before and after with you. I haven’t had a lot of success dieting in the past (most of the time I just eat more because food is all I can think about, sigh) but I want this one to work, I have a real physical goal, a weight loss goal, and most of all a confidence goal. We came to the start line at the Santa Monica Pier as 10 individual runners. 344 miles through city streets desert heat, and trails only lit by the stars and the moon, we were a family of runners intertwined and connected by this experience forever.
After I first watched a video of the first Speed Project race, I knew this was something I wanted to accomplish. I gravitated to this unsanctioned road race for it’s pure grit, the unknown, and the fact that it sounded so impossible and crazy. So when the call went out last fall to my Concrete Runners crew for willing participants to form a team, there was no doubt it in my mind I wouldn’t be a part of this. I blocked off my calendar and fit this into my finances without question. I knew how draining and exhausting the Hood to Coast 200-mile relay was, but I had no idea what I was about to get myself into by accepting a position on a 10 person team to relay-style-run our way from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Dear My Love, Running,
This Valentine’s Day I would like to thank you for being there for me when I needed someone to lift me up when I was down. For being there for me on good days when the miles felt easy and weightless and on the bad days when my feet felt like cement blocks. You have always been someone I could count on to hold my secrets, wishes, struggles, and doubts safe and you are always there to celebrate my successes and milestones. You never fail to prove me wrong when I don’t think I am good enough or worthy enough. You have shown me that through dedication and hard work that I am strong and I can become greater than I was the day before. My love for you is constantly evolving and changing and through each new obstacle, race, relay, and experience we face together, my love grows deeper and deeper. Even on the days when you bring me pain and injury, I know that getting through it will only make me stronger and more dedicated to keeping myself healthy so that we can be together for a very long time. The feeling of accomplishment I get when we have finished something great together is more special than any card, trophy, medal or tangible item I could ever receive. I don’t think I could ever truly express the happiness you bring to my life or how you make me feel, but I do know that what we have is something special and no one can take that from us. Day in and day out, mile after mile, through success and heartbreak, we are a team, and for that, I thank you.

January has been a weird month. It was just kind of an off month for me. For starters, I started a new job January 3rd and it has been kind of crazy. It’s been over four years since I’ve had a new job and I had forgotten how hard and exhausting it is to come in to a new company with new processes, new people, new ideas, and all sorts of new things to learn. Marathon training for the Mt. Charleston Marathon in April also started around the same time… kind of. My second week on the job, I had 3 days of training and orientations at the firm’s marketing retreat in NYC and that was so exhausting for me, unfortunately I didn’t get as much running done as I wanted to there (I really didn’t even see NYC as much as I wanted to either!) I also tweaked my calf the last run of 2016, so that needed some rest before I was back to feeling 100%. Safe to say that January and my marathon training just didn’t start off with a bang like one would expect. Continue reading “January”
For the second December in a row, I participated and completed the 3 for 31 challenge. What that means, is that for the whole month of December I ran 3 miles each day. And after my second consecutive year of participating, I noticed some of the same challenges, obstacles, and rewards each year! Before starting this last year I figured running three miles a day would be no problem- I had been training and running the sum of that each month already anyways. How hard could it be? Well, I am here to tell you that it was NOT that easy.
